The growing incidence of adverse weather events is a real challenge for the insurance industry. Climate change is the background of this move toward more uncertainty and larger losses associated with weather related risks. The insurance industry has to be prepared on two fronts. On one hand, insurance companies should adapt for the negative effects that climate change may have on the profitability of their business and even on their solvency in the case of extreme events. On the other hand, insurance can also significantly help individuals, firms and governments to mitigate the economic losses and to facilitate the adaptation to climate change.
